We welcomed our newest designer, Alessia, to our team this month.
Alessia studied Illustration at the University of Gloucestershire before working at a signage consultancy in North Wales as a Graphic Designer and Sign Finisher.
We've asked her to share a bit about what makes her tick. Here's five minutes with Alessia.
Anywhere in the countryside or on a beach where I can properly switch off from the world. I’m currently based in North Wales and commuting into Manchester. I spend a lot of time on the North Wales coast as it’s close to home, it’s the perfect mix of countryside and beach. I usually spend my time chasing after the dogs and hunting down a bakery spot to get a good coffee and pastry along the way.
I wouldn’t say I have a favourite designer - there’s too many – but I’m inspired by craft. I love traditional signwriting, lino and screen printing, and anything that involves a hands-on process.
I’m also a big fan of Aardman Studios, their stop-motion work has always fascinated me. There’s something about tactile, handmade design that resonates with me.

For sentimental value, one of my favourite objects would have to be a stone my mum found for me that has a natural ‘A’ shape on the surface, and I bring it everywhere I go. Now I’m always on the lookout for quirky stones.
I enjoy going on dog walks with my family and friends. The big dog in the picture below is my boyfriend’s dog, Merlin, and my little dog is called Beanie. They are both full of character, little and large but Merlin is certainly ruled by Beanie, she is small and mighty!
I’ve also recently got into wood whittling. I’m no pro but find it therapeutic and enjoy making funny little figurines.
I also do my own nails and enjoy getting creative with different designs.
For me, it’s the research behind each new place. I’m fascinated by discovering what gives a placeits identity and character and then translating that into design. Seeing it all come together as a final product is super rewarding.
What are you most looking forward to about your new position?
I’m excited to get to know the team, learn from them and contribute to interesting projects.
I’m also looking forward to exploring a new city and there’s certainly plenty to discover in Manchester.
I’m a bit of a thrill seeker; I went skydiving a few years ago and would love to do it again solo one day and all over the world.
